The herd: Billy, Eidelweiss, her twins Hansel and Gretal, Stanley. Missing from the picture is wee Peak who is most certainly not too far away.

Peak and his brother Boo came to Teja's when they were 3 months old. They got sick. I called the vet several times and did all that I could to save them. Sadly Boo did not make it, leaving poor Peak alone in the barn where he was not wanted by the herd. In spite of his little red sweater which I put on him, he was always cold, not to mention, very lonesome. About two weeks before Christmas I decided that to save his life, he would have to come into the house. Peak was free to roam through the house wearing a diaper which the dogs found ridiculous and they kept removing it. Peak would sleep on comforters on the floor surrounded by dogs. I'm sure Peak thought he was a dog. He would go through the doggie door with them to take care of business. When spring came, I would take Peak with me to do chores at the barn in an attempt to get him accepted by the herd which took some time. I am happy to say that Peak now has his place and he no longer thinks he's a dog.

Stanley, a 6 year old goat came to Teja's about a year ago. Because he is all white, it took quite some time for him to be accepted by the herd. He had difficulty orienting himself, and when the others would go back to the goat house, he would stand in the pasture alone and cry. For the entire summer, I would have to lead him back to the goat house, several times a day. I'm very happy to say that our Stanley now can do everything all on his own. He's all grown up now.

Billy is a very friendly and affectionate goat. He is also the leader of the herd. He is always the first to come out of the goat house in the morning and the first one to go in at night. When visitors come to Teja's, the goats are my welcoming committee with Billy in the lead.

Eidelweiss surprised us one early morning in May with her twins Hansel and Gretal. Summer of 2002 was very hot and humid. Eidelweiss being the perfect mom let those babies sleep on her back for hours each day, never once bouncing them.
